In the year 1991 Ross became a professional snowboarder and he was the first person winning the golden Olympic medal for this enthralling winter sport. It all happened at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Unfortunately after he won the prestigious gold medal, it became clear that in the sports man’s circulatory system traces from Cannabis were found. Due to this Ross was automatically disqualified. Luckily this rediculous decision was overturned at a later date, and the medal was given back to where it belonged, with the superb snowboarder.

Increasing snowboarding and skiing-related injuries http://www.soul-ride.com/increasing-snowboarding-and-skiing-related-injuries/ http://www.soul-ride.com/increasing-snowboarding-and-skiing-related-injuries/#comments Wed, 19 Sep 2007 09:15:15 +0000 Paul http://www.soul-ride.com/2007/09/19/increasing-snowboarding-and-skiing-related-injuries/ Increasing snowboarding and skiing-related injuries

ski_crash.jpg

Skiers and snowboarders are increasing in number annually. As the participants for these sports increase so do the number of injuries. More awareness is being placed on ski and snowboard safety.

During the course of a year an estimated 11 million skiers and 4 million snowboarders in the United States alone are on the slopes at least once. The average number of visits to the slopes is around 60 million. For every 1000 skier visits, there are around 2.5 serious medical injuries. This comes out to one injury every 430 days of sking and snowboarding. The death rate of snowboarders is 40 percent lower than alpine skiers, they are more likely to be hit by skiers gone out of control than the other way around.

When skiers fall they slide a lot which causes them to be three to 4four times more likely to crash into someone or something. A snowboard on the other hand acts more like a seat anchor, preventing sliding. A fatal accident usually is caused from hitting something.

The most common injury faced by skiers is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprains. Those who were injured skied more years, but fewer days per year, were more likely to be female, are older, and fell less often.

Before you begin snowboarding or skiing, it is wise to attend some classes from a qualified instructor. Also make certain you have the proper equipment. After all you are responsible for your own safety. The safer you are the more fun you will have on the slopes. A piece of mind giving

The coolest winter sport http://www.soul-ride.com/the-coolest-winter-sport/ http://www.soul-ride.com/the-coolest-winter-sport/#comments Sat, 15 Sep 2007 20:16:35 +0000 Paul http://www.soul-ride.com/2007/09/15/the-coolest-winter-sport/ The coolest winter sport

Do you like the winter months? Or, probably more important, do you enjoy spending time in the chilling winter weather? If your answer is yes, and you are searching for some exciting new action to try this winter season, snowboarding might be just your thing.

To many persons, practicing snowboarding sounds hazardous, as the sport would only be suitable for wild teenagers. The action of skiing down a mountain or large hill sounds frightening enough and the idea of making the ride while using a snowboard sounds even too complicated to be tried. If your thoughts are similar, you should think one more time. Whether you’re an advanced skier or if you have never made it down a winter mountain, the enthralling snowboarding sport can be a spectacular way to spend your next winter holiday.
If you are a skier and considering of branching out into the snowboarding world, congratulations!. The most wise advice I can tell you is to remain patient. Due to snowboarding’s similarity to skiing and yet very different, some folk who ski very good will soon discover that snowboarding comes quickly and naturally while others will experience the learning process as grueling and highly frustrating. Don’t give up because eventually the skills of snowboarding will be under control.

Even if you never skied before, do not be scared. Knowing the skiing skills is not always needed or even beneficial in practicing the snowboarding sport. You, not knowing how to ski, may actually be able to learn the main snowboarding tricks much easier than your skier buddies. After a while you may even come to the conclusion that snowboarding fits you like a glove.

Allow me to give you some useful advice, ski fanatic or not. First, you should not expect to jump on a snowboard and learn all the skills by yourself. Most active travellers will benefit considerably from taking some basic snowboarding lessons. Do not hesitate and sign up for several lessons before you make your way to the slopes.

The next and probably more important advice is simple. Rent your snowboard. Do not be silly and buy the most advanced board and snowboarding stuff just to make an impression like you’re a seasoned professional on the slopes. For the first try outs you should hire the equipment and take your time to learn what board types suit you the best. By hiring the gear you can avoid making an expensive mistake that at some point will leave you disappointed and frustrated.

Ok now you know all this, who knows, the stunning snowboarding sport could become your most enjoyable winter fun action in no time.

Going on a winter sport holiday?

Snowboarding in Dubai? Yes! it’s possible. http://www.soul-ride.com/snowboarding-in-dubai-yes-its-possible/ http://www.soul-ride.com/snowboarding-in-dubai-yes-its-possible/#comments Sat, 15 Sep 2007 13:54:25 +0000 Paul http://www.soul-ride.com/2007/09/15/snowboarding-in-dubai-yes-its-possible/ Dubai is a rather new holidaymakers’ destination. The place can best be described as a desert city boasting an outstanding infrastructure and top class tourist facilities. Its ideal position just a short distance away from the majority of the Asian nations and the more liberal policies make Dubai extremely popular as a highly enjoyable short-break destination for holidaymakers who appreciate the finest shopping, mouth-watering cuisine, funky parties and a range of unique sports and activities.

Though Dubai can get incredibly humid and unbearable hot in the summer season, with temperatures reaching as high as 50 degrees Celsius from May to September, it is a fantastic location to visit during the cooler months of September to April.

As a prerequisite to obtaining a tourist visa to Dubai, your passport should be valid for a minimum of six months before your arrival. Individuals who intend to spend less than thirty days in the United Arab Emirates may apply for a tourist visa, whereas visit visas are issued to those who intend spending more than 30 days in the country.

Dubai, a city of superlatives, is home to the tallest, highest, largest and fastest. It is home to Burj Dubai, which upon completion in 2008 will be the tallest building in the world, surpassing the Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

Dubai offers visitors a host of unique experiences including the exciting Dune Bashing, thrilling hot air balloon rides, golfing or for something entirely different- sand golfing. Visitors to Dubai can experience the extreme as they go skiing and snowboarding in the large, specially built snow skiing center or go sand-skiing and sand boarding in the hot desert sands.

dubai-ski.jpg

Wild Wadi, a water amusement park, in the heart of the city is a great place for kids and adults alike. The Overnight Desert safari is as different but just as exciting as the Morning Desert safari. The Dubai Dhow Cruise takes you sailing down the Dubai Creek while aboard a wooden dhow that is traditionally decorated. Marvel at the major landmarks that are beautifully lit up at night as you take a midnight cruise for a completely different experience.

Snowboarding in Breckenridge http://www.soul-ride.com/snowboarding-in-breckenridge/ http://www.soul-ride.com/snowboarding-in-breckenridge/#comments Thu, 13 Sep 2007 12:44:16 +0000 Paul http://www.soul-ride.com/2007/09/13/snowboarding-in-breckenridge/ You’ll be welcome with open arms in Breckenridge, Colorado. Breckenridge ski resort offer the world’s finest powder and terrain anyone can imagine. Half of the slopes at Breckenridge ski and snowboard resort are for beginners, while the other half are for moderate to extreme skiing. Breckenridge is the only ski area to offer this much skiing for all types of ability levels.

The town of Breckenridge is just like you would dream about on the way to your ski vacation. The town has a Main st. with stores, restaurants, and variety. You won’t be disappointed as you stroll down Breckenridge’s

Main Street ; the main area is about ½-mile long and makes for a lovely walk during the daytime or nighttime. As far as resorts go, you can stay in a classy hotel and pay big bucks, or you can stay just outside of town nestled in theRockies. Many condos are located a few miles down the road on RT. 9 otherwise known as

Main Street: If you decide to book a condo out of town, you’ll get a better sense of what a mountain vacation is all about. On top of this advantage, you can also expect to pay significantly less than if you stay in the busy town of

Breckenridge . Be prepared to breathe the fresh Colorado mountain air. It’s truly invigorating!

As the seasons change in Breckenridge, Colorado your outdoor options expand and contract. Once Spring comes, the skiing gets better and the temperature goes up. Yes, it still snows hard in the Spring time.

The only difference is the quality of the snow. It tends to be wetter than the winter when it is dry-fluffy snow. Either way, it’s great and you’ll love the Spring time snow as much as the Winter snow. After all, the base of Breckenridge in April is about 60 inches deep.

Which snowboard dude! http://www.soul-ride.com/which-snowboard-dude/ http://www.soul-ride.com/which-snowboard-dude/#comments Mon, 03 Sep 2007 13:56:12 +0000 admin http://www.soul-ride.com/2007/09/03/which-snowboard-dude/ buy_snowboard1.jpg

Choosing a snowboard is a difficult process and so it is advisable for learners to go for rented ones in earlier stages. Once they understand their requirements, it will be easy for them to strike at the snowboard that will suit them best. In arriving at the selection decision, the following factors are worth considering:

Cost considerations
The first consideration worth noting in any purchase is the amount the buyer is willing to part with for purchasing an article. There are boards available even at $150 but they can be used only to learn the basics and do not have much utility as they have a very simple design.

The price of snowboards varies:

-$300 to $450 for entry level boards.
-$450 to $ 799 for mid-range boards.
-$800 and above for top-range boards.

Present skill level of buyer
The skill level of the buyer is a major determinant in guiding the purchase decision of the snowboard. According to the riding experience of the buyer, the requirements vary:

-A newbie or a beginner can go in for entry level or mid-range board
-Persons with intermediate and advanced skills who try tricks should opt for top end boards with intricate design.

Riding style
Depending upon his style, the user should make a choice for the snowboard. To understand our own style, we should first analyze where we spends most of the time:

-If we spend most time in the park, then we are freestyle riders and should go in for the highly responsive and longer freestyle snowboards.
-If the time is spent carving on mountains, we are free ride riders and should opt for shorter half-pipe boards that float well on powder.
-All-mountain boards are best suited for doing all the styles.

Personality of user
The length of a Snowboard is measured from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. The board with appropriate width can be found by standing on the board placed on flat ground. The personality of the user is highly relevant in choosing the right type of snowboard. For a person with average personality, the length of the snowboard should reach between the chin and nose of the user.

-People who are light should go in for shorter, narrow and flexible boards which are easier to manage and initiate turns.
-Heavier people should have longer, wider and less flexible boards.

Don’t forget when you’ve bought your snowboard to think about snowboarding insurance!

snowboarding.jpg

Air to Fakie: is where you mae a -degree turn in the air followed by a switch, it’s a good chance to practice your movements in the air.
Alley Oops: making a 180 degrees as you go uphill in the halfpipe, not for beginners!

Backside 720: an advanced trick where you make two full spins in the air coming out of a halfpipe.

Butters: when you’ve figured out your turns 100% this is a movement to make a series of full turns, and takes a bit of confidence.

Five-O Grinds: In this trick, you need to make a Wheelie instead of just grinding with your board flat on the rail, but you need to know how to do a wheelie first.

Nose and Tail Rolls: when you change your stance by making a 180 degree turn by using either your board’s nose or tail to spin the board around.

Ollies: a basic and popular maneuver in aerial tricks used to jump over small things.

Rock-n-Roll Grinds: another grind where you keep the board parallel to the rail, but it requires perfect approach, balance, and timing.

Snowboarding in Halfpipe: performed in a half-pipe, snowboarders to perform jumps and other tricks as they move from one wall to the other, but it’s not for beginners.

Wheelies: taking it’s name from the motorcycle trick this one is where you ride just one end of your board while lifting the nose of the board slightly.

50/50 Grinds: one of many tricks that don’t occur on snow, such as rails and boxes, where you ‘grind’ over them.

DON’T FORGET: never go snowboarding without ski travel insurance!
